1. How do your life experience, religious
view and other factors influence the way you create the project “On Utopia”, “The
Hong Kong Map of Out of Sight, Out of Mind in Place” in particular?
I used the usual way for narration due to
the lack of organizing skills. For convenience as well.
I used map for narration because I like
something old. Once being shocked by the process of losing something, people
like old things then.
2. What have surprised you most when you
finished marking all the unpopular sites?
I didn’t feel surprised.
3. In the statement of the project, you
once said “For the sake of ‘harmony’, I put pixelate on all sensitive objects
to prevent disturbance. It is just a wall. Things behind it are always there.”
So, why have you reversed the map of Hong Kong and marked all the unpopular
sites rather than using pixelate?
That is about other art works in the
project.
4. It seems that this map is the first work
of the series (according to the order in exhibition). Is this represented an
introduction of the project and other art works? Why have you put it as the
first one? Is there any distinct difference between this map and other art
works in the exhibition?
This is not the first work. The exactly
order has been forgotten already.
The only distinct difference between this
work and others is the media used. This map is acrylic on canvas while others
are on paper.
In fact, I don’t see these works as in series. I just group them as a project for the convenience of browsing through.

5. Most of the unpopular sites are in the
densest areas. Do you think Utopia is somewhere without human being? Regardless
factors like power, coercion and reality, what is your Utopia?
I only think where there are many people there
are more excreta.
This is reality but not any kind of sign or
lament.
It is impossible to consider Utopia without
thinking of power and coercion. A so-called wonderful place without human being
will never have being named by human.
6. What books will you think of when
talking about Utopia?
George Orwell “1984” and Thomas More “Utopia”.
7. Do you think there is any room of
improvement for this project? What technique and media may you use to express
the ideas now?
Every work has a so-called room of
improvement.
But this is only created for the
exhibition. This topic will not be worked one anymore.
8. Do you find any difficulties as a
full-time artist? Will there be sometimes you cannot think and express your own
ideas properly?
Talking about difficulties is not any kind
of virtue. (Translator: Difficulties are nothing.) Meanings of all the works
are to be patient and diligent. (Translator: Quite negative expression. Though
I know she won’t think it as negative but true.)
Working is always hard, though my
difficulties are different from the others’. In Hong kong, mostly it is about working for the
other. My hardness has nothing to do with other people. I cannot
comfort myself nor benefit the other even if I tell the other what my hardness
is.
There are varied kinds of administration stuffs
and framework to finish. Yet basically there is nothing bothering my artificial
work.
